Sex, Love, and BDSM; Dating notes from an Englishman in New York: On the subject of labels

Human first! As I’ve always said! And even thoughmany of my characters are something other than human it still stands that none of their traits, labels, or aspects are bigger than their core (their lovely electron-like humanity). A label may tell you where someone stands or where they’ve been but it will never dictate where they’re going, what they’re capable of, and who they really are from all perspectives. A label is just one brief window, one tiny sliver of a side of the infinitely-sided diamond that is our true sum. And the light shines different through each of us and we’re not stationary. So even when a label matches, our expression of it is as unique as we are. If you find yourself blanking out as soon as you hear a label or use one you’ve stopped paying attention. You’ve ceased to see them as human. And when they’re not human you can do anything to them, some things much worse than others. Sometimes you simply miss a fantastic connection. Other times someone can lose their life.

Your choice. Labels or humanity.
